On August 22nd we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
When we think of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we call to mind the Blessed Virgin Mary’s interior life. Her heart exudes such love for humanity, while at the hands of humanity she has suffered so much. She is the source by which the gift of grace is given to us by God, yet her Immaculate Heart has experienced such blasphemies and offences committed against it, that “God is already too much offended.” (Our Lady’s words to 3 shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.)

In 1925, Our Lady of Fatima appeared to Sister Lucia in her convent in Pontevedra, Spain, asking for the devotion of the First Saturdays of five consecutive months to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On these Five First Saturdays, we must go to confession, receive Holy Communion, recite the Holy Rosary, and meditate for 15 minutes on its mysteries, with the intention of making reparation to Blessed Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Heart. |

Icon of Our Lady of CzestochowaLegend claims that Luke painted this Byzantine style icon on a table top built by St. Joseph himself. In 1430, the painting was damaged by thieves, and scars were left on Mary’s face. Associated with miraculous events, it is a national symbol of Mary’s being crowned Queen of Poland, and is also known as the Black Madonna, due to darkening from burning incense and candles. |
