The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

March 25th marks the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, nine months before the Nativity of the Lord. This Feast recalls the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Blessed Virgin,

“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus” (Luke 1:30-31).

Mary responded with the obedience of faith. Then Mary said,

“Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38).

Through Mary’s “Yes” to God, she has fulfilled the Divine Plan of salvation, it allows the incarnation of Our Lord and humanity to be redeemed.
