The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

Today (February 11) we celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Lady appeared to a 14-year-old French peasant girl, Saint Bernadette Soubirous 18 times in the grotto at Lourdes, France.

The apparitions began Feb. 11, 1858, ended July 16 the same year and received the local bishop's approval after a four-year inquiry.

Our Lady instructed Saint Bernadette to dig in the ground nearby, from which came a spring with healing properties active to this day. This wood statue is hand-sculpted by the nuns in the monasteries of Bethlehem in France.

The Marian apparitions in Lourdes turned the town into a popular pilgrimage destination. Thousands of pilgrims said that the spring water cured their illnesses. This 12” statue is hand sculpted in beechwood by the artisan in Ha Noi, Vietnam.
